New York City, Germany, Kathmandu… There are so many glitzy and exotic filming locations in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But with the recent release of Avengers: Endgame (2019), everyone just wants to know where the New Asgard location is!
After the events of Thor: Ragnorok (2017), Asgardians lost their home planet and needed to relocate elsewhere. They finally found New Asgard in Endgame. Viewers get to see their new digs when Hulk and Rocket drop in on depressed Thor to persuade him to rejoin the Avengers and bring back half of the population that Thanos wiped out in Avengers: Infinity War (2018).
In the movies, New Asgard is supposed to be situated somewhere on the Norwegian coastline. But that’s not where the place is located in real life! I visited the actual location in November 2020… So where is New Asgard? Let’s find out!
So, Where is New Asgard? Location in Avengers: Endgame
The New Asgard filming location is St Abbs, a compact picturesque fishing village on the southeast coast of Scotland. During its first appearance in Avengers: Endgame, Asgard 2.0 is made to look a little bleak. Though the town is set on a beautifully rugged coastline, the sky is cloudy, the harbour is grey and the village has been heavily CGI’d to reflect the solemn mood of the Asgardians at the time.
But during the town’s second appearance at the end of Avengers: Endgame, New Asgard more closely resembles the Scottish coastal town I visited. Baby blue skies, vivid green grass, colourful houses and a peaceful community. St Abbs is a tiny village, but well worth visiting for an hour if you’re an MCU or film fan.
PLUS, I haven’t mentioned the best bit! Just as I entered St Abbs, I had a bit of a fangirl freak out. It’s common in the UK for towns to be ‘twinned’ with other towns around the world, usually France for some reason. Well, there is a road sign as you enter St Abbs stating it is ‘twinned’ with New Asgard! LOVE this so much. Don’t forget to snap a photo!
How to Travel to St Abbs/New Asgard
Despite being a remote coastal town, it’s extremely easy to travel to St Abbs AKA New Asgard by car or public transport.
By Car: St Abbs is literally a 15-minute round trip detour off the A1, the main road between Edinburgh and Newcastle. It’s the perfect road trip stop off! St Abbs is approximately one hour south down the coast from Edinburgh and 90 minutes north of Newcastle. You only need an hour to wander around, and you can easily park at the harbour. A ticket for one hour is just over £1, but you’ll need to pay in coins.
By Public Transport: From Edinburgh Waverley train station, Newcastle station or elsewhere, hop on a train stopping at Berwick-Upon-Tweed. The journey will take approx 40 minutes from either city. You can then catch a bus from Castlegate bus stop to Northfield Farm, which will take just over 30-minutes. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the harbour from the Northfield Farm bus stop. Depending on the timetables, the entire journey shouldn’t take much longer than two hours, more like 90 minutes.
Things to Do in St Abbs/New Asgard
Apart from admiring the local scenery, there isn’t a whole lot of things to do in St Abbs/New Asgard! Avengers: Endgame is the only reason I would have ever visited. As my friend Robbie told me in a state of disbelief, it doesn’t even have a pub! Can you imagine any Scottish town not having a pub?!
There is the St Abbs Visitor Centre which has a lovely overlook of the harbour, including a memorial to a local fishing disaster. There is also Ebbcarrs Café and toilet facilities on the harbour (again, you’ll need coins) if you require either during your trip.
Just do what I did in St Abbs… Take hundreds of photographs of this dreamy little village in the Scottish borders!

I saw “Love and Thunder” a few weeks ago, and said “that Harbour looks like Anstruther here in Scotland” and thanks to you I just realized seeing that resemblance is not entirely wrong!
Thank you!
Haha nope, not entirely wrong at all! Unfortunately, I don’t think they revisited St Abbs when they filmed Love and Thunder but obviously used shots they got in Endgame to recreate it.
You’re my newest hero; well done. “Almost Ginger, Already Awesome”… well, that may be a bit too pompous for you to rename your blog but that’s what I’m calling it. As Frank the Tank would say, “Keep on keepin’ on”!
Thanks James! 😀
