Can you believe that Four Weddings And A Funeral has a whopping 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes?! It’s clearly universally adored and apparently still very relevant around 30 years later, or else you wouldn’t be wondering where the Four Weddings And A Funeral locations are.
Mike Newell’s Four Weddings And A Funeral (1994) stars Hugh Grant as Charles and Andie McDowell as Carrie. I think it was against the law to make any British romcom without Hugh Grant in the 1990s and early 2000s. Charles and Carrie’s paths cross at various ceremonies over the years, hence the title. And while there is obviously a spark between them, unfortunately, bad timing and the Atlantic ocean always seems to get in their way.
Four Weddings And A Funeral hops around London, Somerset and Scotland but the Four Weddings And A Funeral filming locations are all in London and the home counties. So, let’s check out exactly where they are!
Four Weddings And A Funeral Filming Locations in England
Four Weddings And A Funeral Locations in London
1. 22 Highbury Terrace
The first Four Weddings And A Funeral location is in London, specifically Charles’ home. He lives at a rather nice address, as do all Londoners in all London-set films, 22 Highbury Terrace north of the city centre in Highbury East.
2. Old Royal Naval College Chapel
Time for wedding N.2 already! This time, it’s Bernard and Lydia’s turn, who choose to get married at a Catholic church called St Mary of the Fields in Cripplegate, London. In actual fact, it’s the un-Catholic Old Royal Naval College Chapel in Greenwich, London. I’m not sure if the chapel is open to the public or not. Regardless, Rowan Atkinson’s character of the priest is an utter delight in this scene.
Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the Old Royal Naval College building is one of the most popular tourist attractions and prolific filming locations in the world, let alone in London. Thor: The Dark World (2013), The King’s Speech (2010), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), Les Misérables (2012) and The Crown (2019) have also shot scenes here.

3. Albrissi Interiors, Belgravia
After receiving an invitation to Carrie and Hamish’s wedding, Charles heads to Albrissi Interiors where the couple are, apparently, registered for gifts.
4. 34 Wellington Street, Covent Garden
After trying on wedding dresses, Charles and Carrie head to a cafe on 34 Wellington Street in Covent Garden. In 1994, it was called the Dome, then it was a Cafe Rouge but that’s very recently closed down so another restaurant hasn’t taken its place yet.
5. BFI Southbank
Carrie is too busy counting her past conquests for Charles to remember he has plans with his brother. The pair rush off to the BFI Southbank‘s front entrance, one of the biggest cinemas in London and home to the BFI London Film Festival. Back in 1994, it would have been the National Film Theatre.
It’s on the South Bank, just underneath Waterloo Bridge, where Charles chases after Carrie and confesses his love for her.
6. St Bartholomew the Great Church, Barbican
Wedding N.4 and it’s finally Charles’ wedding! But who is he marrying? Well, that would be telling. St Bartholomew the Great’s Church in the Barbican area of London stands in for some church named St Julian’s Church in Smithfield, London. It’s a gorgeous church, absolutely huge!
Would have been nice to see just one wedding not held in a chuffing church, but maybe that would have been too progressive for 1994.
Four Weddings And A Funeral Locations in the Home Counties
7. St Michael’s Church, Betchworth, Surrey
Wedding N.1 church is St Michael’s Church in Betchworth, Surrey standing in for St John’s Church in Stoke Clandon, Somerset. This is the wedding of Laura and Angus and where Charles has to high-tail it across the country in a small red rust bucket to make it there on time and scrounge some rings when he forgets them.
I’m going to keep all of these various wedding-related Four Weddings And A Funeral film locations as uncomplicated as possible, I promise! Because, well, there’s around five churches and four reception venues…
8. Goldingtons, Sarratt, Hertfordshire
And wedding N.1 (between Laura and Angus in Somerset, make sure you keep up!) held their reception at this stately manor called Goldingtons in the village of Sarratt, Hertfordshire. Though they mainly shot the reception scenes in a marquee.
It’s a huge 52 acres estate and the Freeling family sold it for around £4.5 million in 2015.
9. Kings Arms, Amersham, Buckinghamshire
Charles is a lucky SOB because he manages to convince Carrie to spend the night with him at an old inn called The Lucky Boatman. The exterior of this pub is the Kings Arms Hotel in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
At the time of filming in 1993/1994, this pub was just served drinks and food but now, I believe, they do offer accommodation.
10. The Crown Hotel, Amersham, Buckinghamshire
Just down the street from the Kings Arms is The Crown Hotel, which stood in for the interior of The Lucky Boatman. Though the hotel was completely renovated in a fresh modern style less than 10 years ago, the owners have kept Room 101, which featured in the film as Room 12, largely unchanged. Yes, it still has the four-poster bed!
The Crown Hotel benefitted immensely from being a Four Weddings And A Funeral filming location and experienced a huge surge in bookings after the movie’s release.
11. Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa, Bedfordshire
Bernard and Lydia (wedding N.2, remember?) held their wedding reception somewhere called The Holbein Place, most likely in London. But the real-life Four Weddings And A Funeral filming location was Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa.
12. Albury Park Mansion, Guildford, Surrey
Time for wedding N.3! This time, the nuptials are between Carrie and Hamish, the “stiff in a skirt.” Their invitations state they got married somewhere called The Chapel of Glenthrist Castle in Perthshire, Scotland.
But the exterior (and interior, which we’ll get to next), was actually Albury Park Mansion in Guildford, Surrey. This is another private mansion so not a filming location you can visit, unfortunately!
13. Rotherfield Park, East Tisted, Hampshire
And the Four Weddings And A Funeral filming location that stood in for the interior was Rotherfield Park in East Tisted near Alton, Hampshire.
I absolutely love the random highland flings that happen in the middle of one of the drawing rooms. Because of course, this is Scotland, someone is flinging somewhere at all times.
14. St Clement, West Thurrock, Essex
Unfortunately, with four weddings there has to be one funeral. Poor Gareth (played by Simon Callows) is buried at St Clement’s Church in West Thurrock, Essex. An industrial estate enveloped this tiny church and you can spot the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge in the background of one shot.
And those are all the main Four Weddings And A Funeral locations in England! Have you watched Four Weddings And A Funeral or visited any of the filming locations? Let me know in the comments below!

My friend had her wedding blessings at St Bartholomew the Great Church yesterday and it was so good to see the church in real life and to know it was the movie was filmed there and it made me want to re watch the film
Aww thanks so much for sharing that, Philippa! Sounds like a beautiful day in a beautiful location! 😀
We visited Amersham when we were holidaying from Australia. My niece who lives in London took us there and showed us the buildings used for 4 Weddings and a Funeral. Your list of all the locations is a great read. Many thanks
Thanks so much for your comment, Ruth! I’m glad you liked seeing the locations in London! 😀
