Hotel Gotham in Manchester

As I only graduated less than 2 years ago and live in the UK’s 3rd largest city, I don’t go too crazy on spending large amounts of money at any one time. Especially in the last few months, I’ve been much better at thinking before I spend. Which is why when I spotted a ridiculously (and very surprising) low price for an Executive room on laterooms.com for the following night at Hotel Gotham, I only gave it about 10 minutes thought.

Hotel Gotham opened last year and is Manchester’s second 5 Star Hotel (according to this article) and has been the go-to hotel for couples wanting an extra special night away. Not only those coming from outside of Manchester, but locals who fancy a treat.

Upon arrival, an appropriately dressed doorman makes sure you’re ‘on the list’ before sending you up to the sixth floor to check-in.

As a sweaty young girl carrying way too much stuff and has never stayed in a 5 Star hotel before, I thought I would stick WAY out among the 30-something couples with Ralph Lauren shirts and primped and primed hair-dos I imagined would stay here. But that wasn’t the case. The couple in front of me might have only been one or two years older sporting holdalls like mine and dressed very much the same. This isn’t the Hilton or the Radisson. For lack of a better word it’s a ‘theme’ hotel and attracts guests for the fun of the place rather than just being a hotel for people who consistently stay in hotels of this calibre.

The staff on reception were absolutely lovely. Both the young girls on the Friday night checking in and the impeccably dressed gentleman on the Saturday morning as we checked out. There’s nothing more reassuring about a hotel or restaurant when the staff look really proud to work there.

The Room

I can only speak for the room itself because we (that’s me and my boyfriend Cole) didn’t try the Honey Restaurant and Club Brass. But I do have it on good authority from my friend Ellie that the cocktails are pretty damn nice.

Our room which was an Executive room. The styles from low-high prices are Club, Executive, Directors, Gotham Suite, Inner Sanctum Suite and I’m sure the height of opulence, the Bank Manager’s Suites. As I entered, I was immediately hit by patterns, muted colour, furry and soft textures and a modern retro style that essentially looked like a grown up play room.

Hotel Gotham

The pièce de résistance in Hotel Gotham’s suites is without a doubt the detail. Which is nothing less than what you would expect in a 5 star hotel. For example, the pencil you saw above (later stolen by yours truly, shhh), a Gotham newspaper, the novels that stylistically lend themselves to the room’s art deco theme and the beautiful glasses and complimentary toiletries all created a certain feeling. And not to mention the little shortbread piggies! Those biscuits were bloody lovely.

Ultimately, Hotel Gotham is a fantastic night away and was my hotel of choice for a special treat. It’s a truly welcoming, fun and unpretentious luxury hotel which was worth every penny I spent. As was the amazing waterfall shower. I would go back to that hotel purely for the shower.

Have any of you stayed in Hotel Gotham or a snazzy themed hotel that I should try out?

An Executive room at Hotel Gotham could set you back anything from £125 to £350 per night. It really depends on when you book and what dates you choose. So, if you are flexible it’s worth going back to check to get the best deal. A stay at the hotel is worth much more than £125 per night but I personally wouldn’t pay it because if I know I can get a better deal, dammit I’ll wait until I get that deal.
