February was freakin’ awesome. Yeah there was no exercise, like, at all. I went for a run on the 1st and it was downhill from there. And my healthy eating has taken a holiday. I’ve also found it hard to keep up with blogging and day to day stuff that I normally like to keep on top of. But, I look back over the month and I kept my little self very busy with lots of wonderful things so I have to count my blessings. Starting with one of my favourite film series, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo…
What I’ve been watching
Cinema = outstanding. Home viewings = poor. Surely I must have watched more films at home but I really don’t think I did. Altogether a C+, must try harder.
Re-watches: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2009), The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009), The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest (2009)
Screenings: The Assassin (2015), Youth (2015), Raul (2016), Parting Glances (1986), The Yard (2016), Spotlight (2015), Deadpool (2015), A Bigger Splash (2015), Trumbo (2015)
New watches: Bad Neighbours (2014), 45 Years (2015)
TV Shows: Boxsetting Twin Peaks with Cole so we’re all caught up for when the brand new season starts, getting crazy excited over Girls starting again and binge watching Jessica Jones in about 3 days.
Where I’ve been
Something I was very excited about, I went to the Berlin Film Festival a couple of weeks ago to enjoy some sightseeing of Germany’s capital city and to see a smidgen of the international film scene. You can read all about my time in Berlin and why I wished I’d planned ahead a bit more than I did.
I also visited home at the start of this month which was wonderful and spent a lot of my evenings and weekends watching films at the cinema. However, I’ve also been looking for a new place to live in Manchester and that has been taking up a lot of my time/motivation/energy.
Just this last Thursday I saw a great deal on laterooms.com for Hotel Gotham’s Executive rooms which is a new hotel in Manchester I’ve been dying to try out. As you can see from the photo, it’s an Art Deco edgy wonderland so as soon as I noticed the cheapest price for the very next night, I snapped it up. It was SUCH a great stay and Cole treated me to brunch the next day at Home Sweet Home, a relaxed restaurant in Manchester’s Northern Quarter I’ve been wanting to try for ages.
I had the BIGGEST American pancake you’ve ever seen with banana and cinnamon butter (yum) and even I couldn’t finish it. I would have taken a photo, but Cole mockingly asked if I was going to and I wasn’t about to let him laugh at me. After that I got another ear piercing. Soooo… No more spending for a while I guess haha!
What I’ve been writing
This month has been a heck of a slow month in terms of blogging and being active on social media. In January I published 15 blogs, February only 5. I haven’t been tweeting or instagraming as much and I’ve deactivated my blog’s Facebook page. There’s a very simple explanation. At the end of last year, I put together a complex social media schedule and planned all my blog posts and pinnable images for the first three months of this year, then wrote and published most of my social media actions and blogs for the whole of January. I was totally set, if only I could keep it up…
It took all of the fun out of it. My posts felt stale as I’d written them so long ago, I couldn’t plan for writing blog posts for things that happened spontaneously and would be relevant at that time as easily. I didn’t like my amateurish pinnable images and I wanted set templates that would make life easier. Basically, I felt like all of this other crap was taking away from creating good content and writing the blogs I wanted to write and people (hopefully) want to read.
So I hope you’ll bear with me, I’m working it all out so this blog fills me with all the warm fuzzies I know it can 🙂
What’s coming up in March…
I think 2016 is already turning out to be one of the best travel years of my life. In the middle of March, I’m off to Dublin with my lovely mother and we’re also going to take a day trip to all of the Game of Thrones locations in Northern Ireland which I’m really looking forward to, and I’m also going back home to Cumbria for Mother’s Day this weekend.
I’m heading down to London for a night to attend the BFI Flare Film Festival and check out The View from The Shard, two things which were on my UK Travel Bucket List. I’m slightly scared of heights but I’m feeling confident this time. The viewing platform looks quite big which helps. I was totally fine doing Top of the Rock in New York so I have no idea where this selective fear of heights comes from but it can eff off. I’m also staying at the Clink78 Hostel which I’ve seen loads of bloggers stay in recently and it looks so interesting. It used to be a Courthouse and they’ve kept many of the original features.
5 Goals for March:
- Watch more films at home, I actually have a list now of films I want to work through
- Get back on board with blogging in a way that suits me
- READ MORE
- Try not to freak out half way up The Shard. You’re going alone sister, no one to hold your hand
- Find a house to live in? Maybe?
Did you get up to anything exciting in February?
