If you’d have told me even a couple of years ago that I would be choosing to spend my hard earned(ish) money on a sunny weekend break to Cannes in the south of France, I would have been teaming with glee. Clearly, I’d suddenly come into some money! There’s no way I would have ever visit Cannes without a decent pay packet. Alternatively, if you’d have told me I was attending Cannes Film Festival, that would make a hec of a lot more sense. But if not for the festival, Cannes would be way waaaay down on the list.
Cannes isn’t the most popular of choices for luxury beachside locales. It isn’t even a popular choice of the rich and famous, not anymore. Why would you visit little ol’ Cannes when you could travel to Nice, St Tropez or Monaco?
But it’s former glory days are exactly why Cannes is such a photogenic and beautiful place to spend a couple of days. Cannes was the place to be when silent cinema was booming and when Hitchcock was in his heyday. This is no more reflected than in it’s beautifully maintained Art Deco hotels and mediterranean villas. It may not be up-and-coming or as big as other similar places in the South of France, but it’s certainly not dilapidated. The selection of public beaches, nearby islands and generally good weather make it a simple gorgeous place to spend a few days.
Check out some photographs I snapped over my weekend there and see if they don’t make you want to visit Cannes afterwards! Go on, I dare you!
