Wow is it April already, etc. etc., that’s gone so fast yap yap, where has the time gone… and all that jazz. New Years feels like sooo long ago to me for one very simple reason. I’ve done so much more shit in these past 3 months than I have since I was a camp counsellor. Looking back on the 5 goals I set for myself at the end of February I’ve shockingly managed to hit them all: I’ve found a new house to live in (I move in tomorrow!), I read much more than I did last month, watched way too much Parks and Rec, and the other three points are detailed below…
What I’ve been watching
One of my 5 goals was to watch more films at home and after finally writing a physical list rather than just a throwaway ‘yeah I’ll put that on my list’ to anyone who had a film recommendation for me. There was no list. But there is now so feel free to come at me with some totally awesomesauce films!! I’m ready for yah! I’ve now averaged at over 1 film for every 2 days so far this year so I’m happy with that.
Re-watches: Intolerable Cruelty (2003), The Big Lebowski (1998), A Serious Man (2009), Philomena (2013)
Screenings: Hail, Caesar! (2016), Anomalisa (2015), High Rise (2016), Sing Street (2016), Closet Monster (2015), Like You Mean It (2015), Carmin Tropical (2014), The Girl King (2015)
New watches: The Wicker Man (1973), Working Girl (1988), Wages of Fear (1953), Wall Street (1987), Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters 2 (1989), Foxcatcher (2014), Amy (2015), Cowspiracy (2014), Dazed and Confused (1993), This is Spinal Tap (1984), Straight Outta Compton (2015, What We Do in the Shadows (2014), Calvary (2014)
TV Shows: Parks and Rec, obvs. Whenever I need a pick-me-up I go to Parks and Rec.
Where I’ve been
It’s probably been my best month for travel in a hella long time. The month started with a weekend trip back home to Cumbria to grab a beer or two with my friends and go on a bloody lovely walk up a hill in the Lake District with my parents to Seathwaite Tarn. Tarn is a body of water rather similar to a ‘lake’ for the uninitiated, and it was so much fun. I got to take lovely pictures and hang with ma and pa and luckily I didn’t slow them down too much.
Next, it was my mum’s turn to come to Manchester to fly with me to Dublin for the weekend. Even though Ireland is so close I’ve never been before so we went to all the usual tourist haunts and on our last day we took a day trip around some of the Game of Thrones locations in Northern Ireland which I have written a blog post about if you’d like to read more.
It was a great weekend and I get to cross ‘go on holiday with just my mum’ off my bucket list. I’ve already been to Hamburg with just my sister so it’s my dad’s turn next to endure my company and I’m optimistic about him taking me to South Africa if I agree to watch cricket/rugby. It’s happening, dad. There’s no point denying it, get saving!
Finally, over the Easter bank holiday weekend I journeyed to London to attend the BFI Flare Film Festival which is a film festival featuring only LGBT films. It was my first time at the festival and I have to say, I much prefer smaller festivals so you can hop from one cinema screen to another in the same building and can sit down in a cafe doing some writing in the downtime. That definitely sounds like my ideal day. The films were all so unique in their own right and many of the directors were at the Festival to do Q&As. I also found out something very interesting about Isabella Rossellini but you’ll have to read my BFI Flare Festival post to read all about that!
What I’ve been writing
Here’s everything I published in March…
What’s coming up in April…
Well, moving is a pretty big deal! I’ll be adjusting to living with people again and also a new feline friend. But, I won’t be adjusting too much because it’s literally a 3 minute drive from where I live now and I have the same tram stop and local tesco. I’m also looking forward to having a desk. As whenever I go to write on my bed, I just fall asleep.
I’m going to Cardiff on the second weekend in April for the very first time to attend Traverse (a blogging conference from the same people behind Blogstock) and I’m really looking forward to my Film tour of Cardiff Castle on the Sunday, which just so happens to be my 23rd birthday! When I get back that day I’ll be having a meal with my boyfriend at Infamous Diner, a much talked about American style diner in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
I’ve also had the privilege of being invited to Icelolly.com’s Blog at the Beach event and I think I might just squeeze in another trip back home for Bank holiday weekend at the end of April, or failing that maybe a day trip to Liverpool or Chester.
5 Goals for April:
- I’ve re-joined a gym now so I need to throw myself into yoga/pilates classes, running, swimming and lifting!
- Finally finish my online course on social media and online content marketing. I’ve been dragging it out for ages but day on the weekend I need to go to Starbucks, bash it out and be done with it
- Me and Cole are off to Lisbon at the start of May so I need to get organising what we’re doing
- Meet loads of awesome bloggers at two blogging events
- Have a kickass birthday!
Have you got up to much this March?
