Films in 2015… How did I do?

2015 is the first year I’ve ever really documented what new films I’ve watched, which seems a bit ‘too little too late’ because I was studying film at University recently for 3 years and would have had crazy, crazy long lists. Also, about half way through the year I set myself a new challenge to watch at least 52 films at the cinema, one for each week which is more than I have ever watched before, last year it was about once a fortnight. With the help of film festivals, I almost completed it. I reached 50 but a pesky pre-Christmas illness made me fall at the last hurdle. Ah well! Here are all the films in 2015 I watched for my viewing pleasure…

Grand total: 121

Is that a good number? Is that low? I have absolutely no idea, but I will be comparing this number to 2016’s number (you can follow my 2016 films on this page) this time next year!

Did you watch any great films in 2015 that I should add to my 2016 list?

121 is a fine number as long as that fits your life. Some bloggers watch 400 films or more in a single year. That’s absolutely terrific, but I would literally piss off every person in my real life to watch that many. Therefore, I say watch as many as you feel comfortable with. If that means amping up that total then go for it. If it means cutting back a bit, that’s okay, too. Looking forward to what you have in store for us readers this year whether it be more or fewer films.

This is very true, I’ve probably done more re-watches than new films anyway. Thanks very much Dell, and the same goes to you! Even though you might be cutting back on the posts it’s still going to be plenty to read!

I think that’s a great number of films to have watched, especially seeing so many at the cinema. I hit 152 films this year, which felt like a good number to me. I always feel like I should be watching more, but it’s not always practical especially with all the great television out now and, ya know, LIFE. Since I’ve been keeping track of all my films on Letterboxd, I have watched about 10-15 more movies each year than the one before, so my goal for this year is just to hit around 165, but I’m also not going to force it.

Yeah this is the first time I’ve ever kept track of all the new films I’ve watched but I know I did sooo many re-watches and yeah, TV man! I finally finished Breaking Bad this year and that took up a good two weeks of my life! I’m planning on doing better this year but yeah, if I watch films for the sake of watching new films then that’s a bit silly.

I seem to have watched a lot of film in 2015 but not half as many new releases as you Rebecca. I need to go to more festivals, that could be a new year’s resolution! That said, I see Inherent Vice on your list and that was definitely one of the highlights of the year for me, along with Birdman and Whiplash (although technically 2014 releases). A definite 2015 release was The Force Awakens which I absolutely loved.

Oh festivals boost your numbers big time! Last year I saw 6 films at Glasgow, 3 at a small Film season in Manchester and 4 in Leeds, so over a total of 6 days out of the whole year that’s already 13! The Force Awakens was definitely a beautiful way to end my cinema viewings for the year.
