19 Photogenic Reasons to Visit Berlin in Winter

I took a trip to Berlin in February 2016 for the film festival. My first ever solo trip! It’s shocking I haven’t written anything else about Berlin since. February probably isn’t an ideal time to visit Berlin, what with it being winter and everything. No sitting on park benches in one of Berlin’s green spaces all afternoon or sipping cold, German beers while the sun sets.

And when I first attended the Berlin film festival in 2012 it was SO COLD. Like, ‘oh my goodness, I make such poor life decisions, why am I here, is this what hell in winter feels like’ kind of cold. It was the coldest I had ever been. But in 2016… It was much warmer, just like an English winter. A bit chilly and drizzly but nothing too dramatic. Not exactly sightseeing weather though, right?

No, it’s not. But you don’t need to disregard visiting Berlin in winter altogether. Flights and accommodation are probably cheaper and you can still enjoy a cold one indoors. And if you play the dates right, you could end up watching a movie at Berlin film festival too! It’s one of the most inclusive festivals I’ve ever been too, so you won’t feel out of place.

*Side note* I’m not a great photographer and two years ago I was even worse than I am now. So, I didn’t take tonnes of photos and they aren’t the best but I still wanted to share them because it was a really great trip. So if you could go easy on me, that would be really cool of you.

That winter looks mild from the photos 😛

I’d love to visit Berlin, I’ve been in several cities in the southern part of Germany but Berlin and Hamburg are two I’d love to visit some day.

Oh it was so mild 🙈 I have been in February before and it was SO cold, it usually is snowing and freezing, that year it was just drizzly! I blame global warming haha. Oh and coincidentally those are the only two German cities I’ve visited! I’d pretty much recommend Berlin to anyone, very cheap easy public transport, LOTS to do for all different tastes and relatively cheap to visit for a capital city.
