10 Years of Collecting Hard Rock Cafe T-Shirts

Everyone has a Hard Rock Cafe tee or two – especially if you’ve been to a few of the stateside joints. They’re a very touristy thing to own and I fully understand that. Yet, I still get a Hard Rock Cafe T-Shirt every single time I visit one. In this day and age, it’s a very weird thing to collect. I could potentially get all of them off the internet somewhere, I’m sure. But where’s the fun in that? Plus, this is an expensive enough collection as it is without allowing myself to cheat and buy them online. Please, there are hundreds of them all around the world!

It all started in Orlando in the summer of ’05. I was enjoying my second family holiday in Florida and the first Hard Rock Cafe I’d ever been in and I was 12-years-old; it was right outside Universal Studios and covered in shiny red sequins. The burger flags (this was before I was veggie, now I’m a Nachos girl), the memorabilia, the sheer American-ness… I loved it. The t-shirt had a picture of a monkey on the front playing some serious heavy stuff on a guitar with the caption “If it’s too loud, you’re too old.” Amazing.

Next stop wasn’t until Paris in ’08. We ate there twice (I think?) over the holiday and I got two t-shirts. I was hooked.

Had I bought a pin or something 10 years ago in Orlando I’d have a much less expensive hobby, but then it would have been a useless hobby taking up valuable space whereas t-shirts are much more practical, much more me.

Though I have picked some questionable choices over the last 10 years…

The original Orlando with words backwards in true selfie fashion. Still (kind of) fits!

My own city of Manchester… What was I thinking?!

Ribbed tight, white vests never go out of fashion… right?

I’ll be honest, I haven’t eaten in the Budapest, Glasgow or Amsterdam Hard Rock Cafes. In the case of Budapest, I just nipped in for the t-shirt (we were on a budget!!) and I have actually been to Amsterdam and Glasgow before… just for a couple of days each… But my parents picked these up for me!

The count so far: Orlando, Niagara Falls, New York, Rome, Paris, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Budapest, Brussels, Barcelona, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Prague, Dublin, Berlin

Ones people picked up for me as presents: Seattle, Malta.

20/191 (As of October 2016)

Time and expense allowing, I will always eat in a Hard Rock Cafe and buy a t-shirt wherever I may go. We all have certain things we like to do everywhere we travel, and that’s just one of mine! I wonder if I’ll get anywhere near the 191 figure…

Is there anything you like to do or collect from every place you visit?

Hi Joe, I’m not sure really! I’m the only one I know who collects them and I only really like to wear ones from where I’ve been to.
